St. Matthew's Anglican Church

St Matthew's is a diverse inner-city faith community whose mission is to serve our neighborhood faithfully and be a healing and transforming presence in our world.

We have a long history starting in 1896 and have a full and exciting future. We're an active, justice-seeking presence in our inner-city neighborhood of West Central Winnipeg. We are committed to being a welcoming and hospitable place for people to experience the heart of God in the heart of the city. All are welcome at our table.

As well as regular opportunities for community, spiritual practice, worship and service, St Matthew's is actively engaged in reconfiguring our large sanctuary into affordable rental housing for families, and creating new, beautiful worship space in 641 St Matthew's Click here to Watch a video about the project. 641 St.Matthew’s is home to 4 worshipping congregations:

St.Matthew’s, an Anglican English language congregation.
Grain of Wheat Church Community, a non-denominational, lay led, eucharist centered worshipping community;
Shiloh Apostolic, a smaller pentacostal congregation;
The Emmanuel Mission at St.Matthew’s, an Anglican congregation with origins in Southern Sudan who worship in the Dinka language;

Our Monday to Saturday life is also busy.

St. Matthew’s Parish Prayer:
We pray for our parish, St.Mathew’s, here in the heart of the city in the heart of God. Let our church be like a great tree giving shade and shelter to all who come. Under its branches let the people rest in your grace and be re-rooted in your kingdom’s work. May the streets of our community be holy ground beneath our feet.
